Alhamdulillah a student who attended the Path to Paradise One Day Course has written an overview of the course for the benefit of other sisters' as well leaving her comments and feedback. Please read insha'Allah.
Praise be to Allah. It was the a spiritual, informative uplifting course. Within the day much was covered. It begun half hour later but only because the room was just packed out and more tables and chairs had to be brought. First time I had seen so many muslimas at a course. I enrolled to stop myself from going to the sales and heard a few friends were going so tagged along too. Wasn’t expecting much but I was surprised. I have found my imaan to be revived and nourished. For the benefit of other muslimas I am writing a summary. I have asked for a part 2 to the course.
Overview of course
Part 1.1
We covered why we enrolled?, our objectives, and rectification of intentions. In everything I was told to have the most superior intention i.e pleasing Allah alone. It was wonderful to learn that by intending the pleasure of Allah a person gains and does not lose out and so many other great things can be achieved.
The course instructor read parts of Ibn qayyim’s poem (Called qasida nuneeya) I could see paradise before me and a lot of the other sisters were in ecstasy at the time. Then a description of the beatific vision of Allah was shared and it brought tears to my eyes. Paradise is not what I seek after knowing there is no pleasure like the vision of Allah. There the response of every believer to the greeting of Allah was mentioned. Allah will say salam un alaikum, this beautified the Islamic greeting for me even more. One saint on his death bed was asked to seek paradise and he said he did not seek paradise but the pleasure of the creator of paradise. Paradise had already been presented to him 30 years before.
The key to paradise is the shahadah and each person has the responsibility of performing acts to create the teeth to that key. The path to paradise is by treading the path of the messenger his companions and the ulema.
Part 1.2
The servitude to Allah was made clear. The term ooboodiya and the exegesis of surah of ikhlas and what samad meant. This quality of Allah is him being independent and everything being dependant on him. The rights of Allah were discussed at length
To worship Allah
To perform salah five times daily
To give alms on wealth that is zakatable
To fast in the month of Ramadhan
To perform Hajj
To eat the lawful and abstain from the unlawful
To wholeheartedly accept the rulings of shariah and life a life accordingly
To observe the correct hijaab
To accept fate as it isTo please Allah
To recite the Qur’an
Love is that which removes from the heart love of all except the beloved. There are 15 principles to love.
The benefit of the 99 names of Allah. I made a resolution to memorise the names after hearing the virtues.
Part 2.1
The verse surah shams Success is really attained by him who purifies it [i.e. – the soul], and failure is really suffered by him who pollutes it.” In it is the reality of purification of the soul. Tasawuf is apart of the deen. The spiritual pledge is for some who feel the need. One who gives baya should not look down upon others that don’t and vice versa applies to. The love of Allah is a remedy to many spiritual illness, the teachings of purification of Shaikh Thanvi were meaningful words to reflect over. Just as the rights of Allah are importance just as much are the rights of fellow humans.
Part 2.2
No expectations from anyone
Make excuses for everything (give people the benefit of the doubt)
Have a giving nature (be it a smile, any good gesture)
I have seen the fruits of the golden rules in just days of my life.
There are many hadith with ways to enter paradise. Common reasons
- Having no shirk;
- Belief in oness of Allah and belief that Muhammad is His final messenger
- Acting out of Allah’s pleasure
- Avoiding sins of the tongue and limbs
- Seeking knowledgePurity and cleanliness
- Caring for others and being helpful
- Being peaceful naturedSupplicating
- Understanding and believing the 99 names of Allah
- Being patient
- Being an obedient submissive wife
Time is precious and Allah takes on oath by it in the quran. The Prophet had a routine, and his divided his time
The Messenger (peace be upon him) would divide his time into three:
- Time for worship
- Time for the family
- Time for himself
Time for himself was further divided into two:
- Time of the Companions (Allah be pleased with them all)
- Time for his rest
Many daily acts can be turned into worship if the intention is correct. Awaking early ensures the day begins with blessings as the Prophet prayed for blessings in the mornings for us. Apart of daily routine should be reflecting over the day passed in bed to see what was beneficial and non-beneficial, and on a daily basis replace the non-beneficial with more beneficial. In all actions moderation is the key.
Part 3.4
Depictions of the lives of women.
The prophet SalAllahu alayhi wassalam mentioned 4 women of paradise
- The wife of firawn Asiyah for her steadfastness
- Wife of Prophet Khadija, a supportive intelligent wife
- Maryam mother of Isa, a pious god fearing pure women
- Patient black lady who would suffer from epilepsy and questioned to the prophet to pray for her illness and her private areas being unveiled. The prophet said if you are patient paradise is for you, and she was patient
Other women described are aisha RadiAllahu anha wife of prophet SalAllahu alayhi wassalam and Fatima RadillAllahu anha daughter of the prophet SalAllahu alayhi wassalam
All the these women are role models for women in different ways. The path to paradise the abode where one will gain the vision of Allah is by treading in the footsteps of these shining stars. This is just a brief look at what was gone over.
My notes were 20 A4 sides! Allah reward the efforts of everyone. It is not every day we get to spend the time with people of knowledge and benefit. I am glad I went. Just what a sister who was feeling down in the dumps needed. I can now imagine how the prophets wives and saintly women would teach
